A Christmas Chronicle~

I haven't put my thoughts about Christmas in print yet and I always enjoy going back to see where I came from. So today i will chronicle my Christmas 2008 so that I will be able to look back again someday.

I managed to do a good job this Christmas. I sent long distance greetings to my sweet Cacey and Tony and also lit up my sisters house with some yummies! I felt accomplished when i realized that I'd managed to work hard and save my money and not stress over being broke. This is the first year of my life, i think, that I ran out of time before I ran out of money.

The reason this picture is first is meaningful. You will notice that there isn't a single present under that tree. This is exactly what it looked like Christmas morning.

For the first time in my 54 years I didn't have a present to open on Christmas morning! Eddie has done some inconsiderate things over the last 6 years, but never so brazen as this. I'm not exactly sure why it bothers me so bad. I guess it's because he squanders so much money on drinking and gambling and it seems cruel not to have at least gotten me a card.

He said he tried to buy a card but couldn't find one that said what he wanted to say. I'm like Cheryl, "there's not one that says sorry I'm such an ass". He'd been at the bar all week buying rounds for everybody..........and the woman who cleans his house and washes his clothes and buys his groceries and provides lights, water and cable, didn't deserve a 50 cent card!

You'd think I was raised in Missouri.......who's state slogan is SHOW ME state! Does anybody need to draw me a picture or what?? Do I not realize how much time I have wasted on a loveless marriage, in hopes of getting at least a house out of the deal. Now I realize I would only be stuck with a house that's levied by the IRS or sold at auction to pay off debts. Do I not realize that even if he had life insurance, it would be stuck in probate for all eternity and I'd end up owing somebody money!!!!

Is my health insurance that important to me! I mean barring a diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer, I probably wouldn't even go to the doctor! And if it was stage 4 i wouldn't agree to treatment anyway...............would anybody be stuck paying my hospital bills???

So what if he divorces me! So what if I dont' get a house out of the deal. So what if I feel like an idiot for actually asking the Bastard to come home!! I've certainly been an idiot enough to know I always survive it!

I said as long as he was paying the house payment I was just going along for the ride. I set that goal and so here it is. He hasn't made the house payment. It's time for me to move on.

I have alot to be happy about this Christmas. Patty presented me with a certificate for a week long vacation in Key West. March 28th and I can hardly wait. But I'm setting that as my next mile stone.

After that trip I will be moving to Clarksville. I'm going to move to Emily's basement and stay at Patty's on the weekends when i work at the VFW. I've spent too much time spinning my wheels and the next few months will be spent getting rid of things I dont need to take and deciding exactly what to do with the animals that I can't take either.

The best picture of all lately has been of my little man Canaan and his first sucker! He is the light of my life! So innocent and unaffected by the bad parts of life. He renews my soul every morning with his grin when he sees me sneaking up on him. I do have a good job......as stressful as it is, I know this part of his life is so fragile and I'm glad I'm the one putting a sense of security in his life. He knows what to expect and falls right into the routine, that is so important to his little life right now. I figure about one more year and he'll be ready to get out and socialize and enjoy day care.

Then I'll be returning to the work force and a new chapter will begin. It's all a big cycle and I am not afraid of change. I'm good at it. In fact, I'm the BEST and reshaping my life and coming out on top.

I'm not sad................do not worry about me. I'm merely putting my thoughts in print to remember where I was and where I'm going!

This was me last January 2008. I was laughing and having a good time and I suspect this will be me again this January. Because every January I pledge to be somewhere else, and better and happier and surviving!

My New Years Resolution for 2009 is to infact still be around for 2010! I mean, if you think about it, that's all that's really important. That you have another year to enjoy the adventure of life!

I'm a lucky woman. I have a wonderful sister, wonderful daughters, wonderful grandkids and wonderful friends! I am hugely blessed despite my repeated failures with men! haha Will I EVER learn to play with them and send them home? Good question.........at this point in my life a man is the last thing on my NEED list!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Bring it on!

Heartache Revisited...

You know, I'm a tough ole gal................seasoned with history and baggage beyond anyones means! I've been smart and stupid many times in my life, and for the most part I look back on them with resolve that I did what I thought was right at the time, and have always been very good at putting memories in their place.................THERE.............IT'S DONE.........now get on with it!

Trouble with being the kind of person who compartmentalizes memories..........you never REALLY put them away. Every now and then one jumps off the shelf, dusts themselves off and covers you in a slimy mess that you have to wallow around in before you can successfully put it back on the shelf!

Yesterday history repeated itself. Sawyer went to live with his Daddy abrubtly and left his Mother in a puddle of pure heartbreak.

I had flashbacks of the girls moving back to their Daddy's abrubtly and without warning............and the wave of agony that swept over me when they did. I could see a vision of myself, curled up in the corner screaming through my tears, "why dont they want their mama?" over and over again, gently rocking my new baby (cacey) in my arms. Some of the worst times of my life and if I hadn't had Cacey I do not know how my life would have turned out, or if I'd even managed to continue a life at that point!

It was surreal to see my own daughter; that so many years ago, had broken her own Mothers heart, now scream in agony as she rocked her new baby, when her heart has been broken by her first born!

Why does life do this? What purpose does it serve for the demons of life to be passed onto to your children.

I resent the fact that my demons will not stay on the shelf where they belong! How dare they invade the sprirt of the holidays and forever tattoo "the Christmas Sawyer left" all over 2008!

This saga is just beginning! It is not over and more drama and heartache and anger and resentment are coming! How will I ever manage to get her through something I would just as soon not revisit!

Today we all are doing the same thing. Revisting our relationship with Sawyer Ashley........woulda, coulda, shoulda..............

None of it will do us any good, because it's the circle of life! Time to get ourselves together, shake it off and get ready for the next second, the next minute and the next hour and the next
day.

Today I choose to focus on the wicked humor of it all! I can only invision the shock to Lute and Miss Prisses perfect little life! I can't wait until she finds condoms in the laundry, and realizes how capable Sawyer is of making your life miserable, and when he lies, or embarrasses them at church, or they get called on the carpet by the school principal, or they are humiliated that his grades suck, even though they bust their butts to get him through school.

Give em hell little buddy!! Like no other Sawyer I know, and then I want his Mother to live long enough to hear Lute Dickey say "ok I get it!" and Sawyer to say "I'm sorry Mama!"

Merry Freakin Christmas! :)

I had the weirdst dream today!

(disclaimer for my sister) I am not losing my mind......please do not call Harriet Cohn and have them send the paddy wagon.

I woke up at 3 am this morning,,,,,,,couldn't sleep......lots going on with work, and Amy and the grandkids and the shopping that needs to be done.......I mean it's no wonder I can't sleep!! hahaha

But I said down this morning, after a stressful morning, and dosed off and dreamed the strangest dream. Those of you reading this need no explanation of the people involved, but if you are a stranger reading this, you'll just have to read between the lines.

In my dream I walked into work this morning to my office at Griffy Motor Company. People walked around me like they thought I belonged there and I went into my office and picked up some deals to start my day, and Kent grinned at me as if I was crazy!! He said let's go outside. We went and sat on the bench that we always sat on when he had to scold me about something, or when we talked about Eddie and his most recent shortcoming........

I said who moved that chair, where have I been and how long have I been gone. And I reached over and put my index finger on his index finger (like I used to do with cacey and we called it recharging our battery connections). And I woke up!!!

First dream I've ever had that shook me like that. I was in tears and thinking WTF..........

After having an entire afternoon of thinking about that......I've decided that I've been feeling humiliated lately................downgraded to a babysitter and dishwasher......unappreciated and unprofessional. Griffy Motor Company represents my professional life,,,,,,,,,the job I controlled on every level. Kent Griffy represents the humiliation of having a friend for 25 years and helping him build his business and he downgraded me to his son's employee, and washed his hands of me in blink of an eye!

I realized the tears represent the loss of that friendship. That even though he aggravated me on so many levels, we were friends. We had lots of fun together over the years. He took me for a ride in his race car, in pitch black darkness at Billy Dunlop park. When I got there the next day for the Jenkins and Wynne picnic we'd been cooking for all night...........I saw how many concrete picnic tables we surely could have killed ourselves with. We joy rode in Ole Blue, when he had no brakes.............and went to bars in hick towns where you can't sit with your back to the door!

So after clearing the air with Amy over my frustrations on my job. I remind myself that I decided to take care of my grandchildren because I wanted to make a difference not only in their lives but also in the lives of my daughters. I wanted them to see what a good care taker I am of children and perhaps give them a glimpse of the Mother I was for them. I have never had a job I could not master in a matter of weeks, much less months!! I have been on this job for 8 months and I seem to be further from success or at least satisfaction than I find comfortable and able to accept.

These children cannot humiliate me, if I do not let them. I need to pick myself up by my boot straps and be the grandmother they need, not the grandmother that feels the most comfortable. When they are grown they can talk about how hard I was on them, and credit me with some form of character development, like I managed to do with my own hard ass Father!

I'm thankful for my dream today because it reminded me just how unhappy I've been and that was not the goal. I love my children and my grandchildren. Patience is not my best virtue, but perserverence IS! So we'll see how that turns out for me!

Trying to find the spirit....

After shopping all day with Amy and Emily, I found a bit of Christmas spirit start to rear it's head.............

I am not real excited about Christmas yet, but hopefully that will change soon. I have The Christmas Carole play to attend, and the Children's Christmas party at the VFW to work on. The Christmas Parade is next Saturday........so there will be lots of opportunity to absorb more of the spirit i seek.

I managed to do some decorating this weekend..........an abbreviated version of what I usually do. I have presents to wrap and more to buy,,,,,,,,,,,so as usual, I'll be preparing for the day, right up to the last minute!
My little Canaan is sick for the first time in his little 7 month old life.......so today is ALL ABOUT COMFORTING CANAAN........PERIOD. When a baby is sick he wants to be comforted. So to hell with the laundry, to hell with everything...........I'm going to concentrate on making him feel better! :)
Hope everyone has a good week!

Family Dinners, ugh!

Well Happy Thanksgiving everybody!! How'd your family dinner go? Was it like Boston Legal's.........was it like Norman Rockwell? Did everybody get through the day without out anger, frustration or ill will??? haha I'm guessing my family isn't much different than most families, because nearly every depiction of a Thanksgiving Dinner has some sort of discord involved.

Mine is a time management problem. One daughter is always late and so we plan around that, giving her at least a half hour window of opportunity in our planning. Today was a little extreme, since 11 oclock turned into 1, and she had somewhere else to be at 2........so we saw them less than an hour......didn't even get to serve dessert or sit around having any conversation or anything.

So when Daughter #2 expresses her disappointment that she didnt' have long to entertain her guests.............daughter #1 gets pissed and the FIGHT IS ON!! I guess it had to happen. And because I didn't say the right thing............I'm met with an attitude and a sarcastic "well, we'll just handle Christmas with a phone call!" SUITS ME...........beats worying who's going to get pissed and hurt someone's feelings and then they are going to be pissed that someone is pissed cause they hurt their feelings!! UGH.......IT NEVER ENDS.

Whew.........

The dinner was a masterpiece!! Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious!!! It's the process of preparing a feast that is as much fun as the actually eating. I think the problem was we didnt' invite enough guests.........that way at least SOME of the guests are in good moods, not rushed and not slighted!

We didnt' even get any pictures,,,,,,,say what we are thankful for or anything. It was Emily's first Thanksgiving in her own home, I guess I can't blame her for being disappointed that she had worked so hard and it was over so quickly, without getting a chance to enjoy having her family in her home. And I admire her for being honest with Amy about how she felt. I just wished Amy had gone on over to Emily's like she said she would, and planned for tomorrow's shopping and everything would have been alright.

Instead, this animosity will spill over into next week and the next holiday.........and we'll all be tippy toeing around.

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody........we made it again!

30 years ago......

On November 24, 1978 my Mother died. It was the day after Thanksgiving and it's been 30 years and I still remember it like it was yesterday. She was miles away from her home and her family, in a cold and impersonal Walter Reed hospital, with noone around but my Father......wish I could have changed that, but that's the way it was.

Hard as it is to think about, I've decided to pay tribute in a different way this year. In pictures! Some of you never met my Mother and all of you missed out on a warm, loving, tender hearted, witty woman!

Born the only girl to a family of 5, and raised as an assitant to an over worked Mother. Made her a great Mom though, and I remember her wearing aprons, dresses and snow boots! haha

I love looking at pictures of her a young woman, because she was beautiful, with beautiful hair and a great smile. She has lots of girlfriend pictures, passed down to us and I realized that I inherited her ability to make friends and be a good friend.
This is one of my favorite pictures of her when she was young....She told me she was looking for a job in that paper! haha

This is Clarksville High School, on Greenwood Avenue, was built the year my grandmother was born, in 1906. My mother graduated there in 1943.

She met and married my father and lived in Clarksville all her life. Her kids and her family were her life and we all owe a debt of gratitude to her for her ability to raise 5 kids on little or nothing with a man who was moody and angry most of the time when we were younger.

She was a good woman, a hard working woman and she did a great job and she has been sorely missed by her children, I can guarantee you that. Some how when you lose your parents it's like you lose your history........nothing but the future awaits and you become responsible for who you are.

In the end I realize I am a child born, of parents who DID laugh, and have a good time when they could, which wasn't often. And they loved to dance together,,,,,,,,wish I had a shot of her doing her favorite little ditty but this will suffice. It's one of my fondest memories of my Mother because even though she'd probably tell you she hated dancing, she did a decent job and I know she enjoyed dancing with my Father. All the women wanted to dance with him and that had to make her proud!

She was a gooder........if I can be half what she was I will consider myself a successful human being. She's been gone 30 years but I carry her memory with me every day and strive to be the kind of person she molded me to be. I am thankful I was lucky enough to have a Mother just like her!

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. I have so much to be thankful for and I hope you've enjoyed meeting my Mother! I suspect at least 3 of you can say AMEN SISTER!!

In loving memory of Nancy Ann Davis Tyre, April 18, 1925-November 24, 1978.

Days Off?

My time management is out of sync. Well, maybe that's not exactly the problem, it may be that i don't have any time to manage!! That sounds more realistic. For some reason I'm not sleeping at night, and that aggravates me to death. I have absolutely no problem falling asleep, because I do that regularly before I see my favorite show...........but then at 3 I'm wide ass awake, thinking this is ridiculous!!!

I remember hearing my Mother and her friends talk about not sleeping, so I guess it's a woman/age thing. And in some respects i guess it doesn't matter WHEN you sleep as long as you sleep. So if I fell asleep before my Dancing with the Stars show last night, then that means I slept for 2 hours before I actually went to bed at 10. Then slept from 10 to 3, so all together I had 7 hours of sleep...........WHY AM I COMPLAINING?

I had a day off yesterday for Veterans Day. I made 8 Cream Cheese Roll Cakes for Darlene's market, baked a birthday cake, attended the Veterans Day ceremony at 2, came home and decorated the Duck Hunters cake and piled up in the recliner with a blanket.........so I guess it was a good productive day, except I didnt' get any house work done, the floors need mopping, the laundry is piling up! hahah And I'm saving money like crazy, but I need time to go to the grocery store......for something besides cake stuff! haha

Christmas is fast approaching and I'm thinking,,,,,,,,,where will I find the time to actually go shopping?? Much less time to decorate, wrap, or do all the necessary stuff to prepare for the holidays. Every year I think, whew, I wished it would just pass me by.................one year, I'm gonna be ready for Christmas................even though that hasn't happened in 54 years, I guess there's always hope.

Here's the Duck Hunter cake. Not bad. I used the paint brush icing technique and I thought it turned out pretty good. It's for Staff's step dad, Chuck Poff. I have a baby shower cake to make before Sunday. Jennifer, Eddie's daughter, is having a baby shower and so I'm re-doing a cake I made when I first started decorating cakes.
I had hoped Amy would go to the shower with me but I guess she's not going. I can't miss it, because this will be another grandchild, but then that means I get to spend the afternoon with the OTHER side of Eddie's family and I'm sure I'll stick out like a sore thumb. Jeannie will surely be all her bubbly self, announcing to everyone this is her ex husbands wife and her old friend. Ugh...hopefully Mrs. Ferrell will be there and she is MY mother in law now so I can sit with her maybe. In between Jeannie slobbering all over her to reestablish her position in the family. Oh well, maybe I can stay a few minutes and then go Christmas shopping afterwards..........
Now that's an idea! I'm taking off to go to the shower, so i can use that day to shop. I'm feeling better already! haha
Amy is going out of town next week. Betty is staying with the kids on Monday night, Emily is taking them Tuesday night, I'm staying Wednesday night and Emily will take them on Thursday night. So it wont' be too bad. I just hate for her to be away from the baby for a week. Bless his little heart! It also means I'll have to get Josie to school, and pick her up from school and make sure dinner is ready and that they actually eat, do homework, take showers and be ready for getting them off to school the next morning!
We are having Thanksgiving at Emily's house this year. So I think I'll just spend the night on Wednesday night and get up early and bake the Turkey and Dressing and since we are eating at 11 I should get home early enough to relax.......I HAVE THE FRIDAY OFF AFTER THANKSGIVING......... I'm going to see to it, that I have NO cakes to bake that weekend......so I can tend to my housework and Christmas decorating.........even though i intend to keep that to a minimum this year.
Ok, that's it folks. Hope you've enjoyed the rambling.

Sunday Morning!

Well after weeks of frustration it appears I'm back up and running in the desk top department thanks to my generous sister and brother in law! :) What would I do without them!!???

Anyway, since it's been several days and I have a couple of creations to share, I'll get right to the point and update you later on everything else.

I've been busy in the cake department the last couple weeks so here's a few updates for you.

I received an order for a wedding cake, on short notice and it turned out beautifully. The cake was for a stranger, and there's alot of satisfaction in knowing you have outside customers as well as friend connections......it means I'm expanding my horizons.....somehow that's awful important to me. haha

Then the big wedding I have known about for a few months called for an autumn theme and I think I aced that with this beauty. Also made a grooms cake for a Chicago Cubs fan and I'm guessing I need to get up to date on other team logos because this cake was a true hit. The bride is a school teacher and EVERY teacher there ask for my card............and since I've been out of desk top business, of course I didnt have a one available. I'll print some business cards and get them to the bride, she'll distribute them for me.

Incidentally the bride, Judy, cried when she saw her cake.........now let me tell ya......that's satisfaction if you never get a penny for a cake! She said "Oh Melinda, I couldn't have pictured it any more beautiful!" That and her check for 125 bucks gave me a warm fuzzy feeling too! ahahaha

Anyway, I have to be at work at noon, so this is it for now. Enjoy!

The Morning After

Well, we've had an entire day to absorb the fact that the Democrats are now in the majority of all three houses!! UGH.......it's never a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket. Who's going to keep them honest....who's going to veto the majority??? Nobody likely. Oh well, the doom and gloom feeling isnt very much fun, so i guess since I have no other choice but to deal.........i'm just going to deal.

I do not want him to walk out of Iraq with out tail between our legs after we've made so much progress for the actual Iraqi people and so many of our sons, daughters, fathers, brothers and sisters having given their lives for the mission.

I do not want him to take the hard earned dollars of people who have actually busted their asses to get where they are so some low life can get a check for doing absolutely nothing.

I do not want universal health care, so I have to wait months or years for necessary tests or procedures that have a long waiting list.

I do not want EVERYONE to have a college education. There are people out there that will become professional students, barely squeaking by just to get a check. I'm all for people actually working their way through college if they want to go. There are alot of professional people who make a nice living and never stepped a foot in college.

So I guess if he DOESN'T do all that, I'll be fine.........I'm not real hopeful about that right now.....it remains to be seen whether he can put his eloquent words into action.

It's not about being black........

And that's my two cents~

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Enough already!

ok, so they elected him president..............he didn't free the slaves, he didn't serve his country in the armed forces. He is a well educated, eloquent speaker with no record of anything. Hang onto your hats and your pocket books America.

God Bless John McCain........I'm glad we have you in the Senate to keep him under control. GO MAVERICK!

No time for a nervous breakdown!

I have decided, if I could just find the time, I'd have a nervous breakdown!! I mean how convenient would that be. I could check myself into the stress unit at the hospital,,,,,,,,they would fill me full of mood altering drugs, where I didn't really CARE where I was, and I could sleep and do absolutely nothing every day, except wander the halls aimlessly, speaking in tongues!

I wouldn't have to be the PERFECT housewife, the PERFECT employee, the PERFECT grandmother, sibling, or anything else I profess to be. There's simply not enough time to let it all go!?? How can that be possible? I am convinced that the more you strive to DO RIGHT,,,,,,,,the more obstacles you face? I'm not giving up, I'm just trying to figure out where a good place to jump off the merry ground would be??

And as I write this, there's a little voice in the back ground saying "meme come feed me............see there's just no time!:

Dont' worry, Im fine,,,,,,,,I just feel a little cornered sometimes....

Computer Error

No new blogs in the last few days because my computer decided to go on strike.
It's amazing how many things you get done, when you dont' have a computer to play on.
I took it to the computer doctor today....and it will be interesting to see what's wrong with it. It's not even a year old so hopefully it's not much.

Lots of activities coming up. I'm bartending Friday night, since we are having a costume party and will probably have a crowd. I'm not dressing up this year, because I dont have the time or the inclination to BE anything.

I have a wedding cake and a titans birthday cake due on Tuesday the 4th, and I also have a ladies luncheon to attend that day. NO PRESSURE MELINDA. The Krecker wedding is Saturday the 8th and I am making the cake for that. Then on the 12th I have a Mallard Duck cake for a hunter. Cake business is going well. I may break down and buy a tier set for my cakes. The three floating tier is nice, but will not work for every cake. These two wedding cakes are stacked cakes,,,,,,not tiered....

Anyway, hopefully my computer will get fixed and i can download some pictures when all this gets started.

Update you when I can

Satisfaction is in the details!

I managed to deliver the cake, unharmed to its destination, only to realize they had the table set up right next to a window!! Here's hoping the icing doesn't melt into a puddle before the bride arrives to see it! haha

The table is pretty small so hopefully noone will knock it off in the floor! I'm very proud of it. I think it looks marvelous. The caterer was there and she does wedding cakes too and was just going on and on about it! She asked for my card! She enjoys the catering part much more so she said she'd call me if she needed a cake and couldn't do both!! When I realized who she was I was a little embarrassed. She's the lady in my neighborhood that does cakes!!! YIKES.........Guess I should have been glad she liked it so much since she's been doing it for years!

Now it's time for me to get ready for work!

Enjoy!

Sweet Success!

After several hours of tedious basket weaving, I have accomplished what I set out to do. I made a beautiful white wedding cake that has yummy strawberry filling. Won't the guests be surprised when they cut into the cake!!! With these red and white roses, it will be even more gorgeous.

They brought me the topper made and I concocted a saucer to hold the wet spongy thing holding the flowers. I know that stuff has a name, but I'm not much of a flower designer, so I'm not well versed at it. I guess I'm hoping I have some sort of skills with flowers since I'm left to make the flower arrangements for the other two layers. I'll play around with them in the morning. I can't put them on until I get the cake to the reception. So I'm afaid it's going to be a crap shoot! haha Wish me luck.

So here's the what it took to make this cake!

6 batches of batter

10 sticks of butter

8 pounds of confectioners sugar

18 eggs

6 jars of All fruit jam

6 pkgs of strawberry jello

9 cake boards (i tripled them for stability)

blood, sweat and tears 17 hours

Cost of supplies $56.74 Charged for cake $100.00

Yes I know it's not enough, however, this is a cake for a good friends son's wedding, they are on a limited budget and I'm sure to get more orders from this.

Let me know what you think........here's a couple of pics!

What a difference a day makes!

Tonight has been much more satisfying than last night was.......although Amy's family and Eddie's work were the benefactors of the cake disaster and I understand the cake was a hit!

I managed to rebake the 10 inch cakes and here's a pic of one sitting in the fridge letting the filling gel! Looks yummy and i have to admit, it's probably the best tasting cake I've ever made.
The other one is the topper (8" layer) that's iced and ready for the basket weave and the rope piping around the edges! And the fresh deep red roses that are going on top!
I feel pretty good about my progress and I'm going to bed in a little bit and get up early and start again! Wish me luck......things will really start to take shape tomorrow!
BTW it's raining! We needed some rain and it's a slow steady rain,,,,,can't wait to lay down and listen to it on the tin roof.........it will be hard to decide whether or not to run my fan like I usually do! haha
Sleep tight everybody!

Success is nothing without failure!

Well, as I have learned since starting my cake business,,,,,,sometimes the best of ideas doesn't necessairly work out like you want it too. The 8 inch cake I am making worked perfectly with the filling, however the 10 inch was not so lucky. Too heavy to move (should have moved it before i made it so heavy) the layers slid, the cake split and now me and Eddie have a MARVELOUSLY delicious cake to eat! He loves mistakes! haha

Actually what happened is I tried to move the completed cake from the temporary board to the finished board,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and down she went! Wouldnt have happened if I'd had the parchment paper last night.....that I had but didn't see and found it when I came home with two more rolls! ha Besides the cake is too heavy to split the layers....so i'm not going to split the rerun, or the 12 inch cake. Just one filling will do. The small cake will be saved for the anniversary so surely after freezing for a year, it won't matter if it slides, because it probably won't!

Anyway, I've still got time to get it all done, and this is exactly why i started early on a cake that's not due until Saturday at 2. I decided to take a xanax and relax a bit and head to bed.

Tomorrow is another day Scarlett!

Here's to the success that I earned through my failure! Sure is damn good though!!! YUMMY!

Wedding Cake takes form!

I baked all the layers,,,,,and the last one is cooling before I can go to bed!

Tomorrow night I'll be up to my elbows in strawberry filling!! Wish me luck!

Night

Working my plan!

I have a busy week, in preparation for the Wedding Cake I'm delivering on Saturday morning! I always have to plan out the days and what I need to accomplish each day leading up to the wedding to make the cake perfect~!

So tonight I'll begin the process by baking cakes. I need two 12 inch, two 10 inch and two 6 inch layers! Those will all be split and filled with strawberry filing, but that wont happen until Wednesday night. I will end up with one 12 inch round/4 layer cake. One 10 inch/4 layer cake and one 6 inch/4layer cake. Then Thursday night the first layer of white icing will go on the 3 finished layers of the cake. They will all be displayed on my three floating tier stand atop a layer of gold satin....which will cover the cake stand and the satin will puddle around the table....Should be gorgeous and I'll display pictures once I get it set up at the Reception room at the F&M bank in Dover!

On Friday I'll be doing the basket weave icing on all three layers, and the flowers will be delivered to me on Friday that will top the cake. All systems go at this point!! Wish me luck.

I've come a good distance with my cake business, since it began in February. Hopefully after the first of the year i'll be able to devote a little more time to marketing, when I give up my weekend bartending job. Just figured I might as well get through the end of the year making the money from the holiday parties!! Gotta get the stash in even better shape, in case of disaster,,,,,,,,which I seem to have at least once a year.

Check back for updates!!

Years of work and worry!

I wonder if it ever ends............will we EVER have a time in our lives when we don't work, and we don't worry? Is that the meaning of life..........surely we are nothing but ants in a glass case.........there for everyone to see our endless work............monotonous traveling back and forth to some invisible destination!

Just when you think you've got it all figured out................another obstacle comes into view. Sorry to disappoint the younger generation......but that's just the way it is!

I have a good life.............good kids,,,,,,good friends and A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF STUFF TO BE PROUD OF. However, at this stage of my life, I would have thought I would be more stable, more secure and looking forward to retirement!!?? hahahah BAHAHAHA what a joke that is!

I've set up this blog, not to inform or disappoint any reader that comes my way. It won't always be good........sometimes it will be awful......but understand that it's mostly my way of getting things off my mind.

Enjoy!
