On November 24, 1978 my Mother died. It was the day after Thanksgiving and it's been 30 years and I still remember it like it was yesterday. She was miles away from her home and her family, in a cold and impersonal Walter Reed hospital, with noone around but my Father......wish I could have changed that, but that's the way it was.
Hard as it is to think about, I've decided to pay tribute in a different way this year. In pictures! Some of you never met my Mother and all of you missed out on a warm, loving, tender hearted, witty woman!
Born the only girl to a family of 5, and raised as an assitant to an over worked Mother. Made her a great Mom though, and I remember her wearing aprons, dresses and snow boots! haha
I love looking at pictures of her a young woman, because she was beautiful, with beautiful hair and a great smile. She has lots of girlfriend pictures, passed down to us and I realized that I inherited her ability to make friends and be a good friend.
This is one of my favorite pictures of her when she was young....She told me she was looking for a job in that paper! haha

This is Clarksville High School, on Greenwood Avenue, was built the year my grandmother was born, in 1906. My mother graduated there in 1943.

She met and married my father and lived in Clarksville all her life. Her kids and her family were her life and we all owe a debt of gratitude to her for her ability to raise 5 kids on little or nothing with a man who was moody and angry most of the time when we were younger.

She was a good woman, a hard working woman and she did a great job and she has been sorely missed by her children, I can guarantee you that. Some how when you lose your parents it's like you lose your history........nothing but the future awaits and you become responsible for who you are.

In the end I realize I am a child born, of parents who DID laugh, and have a good time when they could, which wasn't often.
And they loved to dance together,,,,,,,,wish I had a shot of her doing her favorite little ditty but this will suffice. It's one of my fondest memories of my Mother because even though she'd probably tell you she hated dancing, she did a decent job and I know she enjoyed dancing with my Father. All the women wanted to dance with him and that had to make her proud!

She was a gooder........if I can be half what she was I will consider myself a successful human being. She's been gone 30 years but I carry her memory with me every day and strive to be the kind of person she molded me to be. I am thankful I was lucky enough to have a Mother just like her!
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. I have so much to be thankful for and I hope you've enjoyed meeting my Mother! I suspect at least 3 of you can say AMEN SISTER!!
In loving memory of Nancy Ann Davis Tyre, April 18, 1925-November 24, 1978.
